Elderly couple’s decomposed bodies found in Aurangabad

AURANGABAD: An elderly couple’s decomposed bodies were found in their apartment located in Bansilal Nagar area of the city on Tuesday. afternoon.
The incident came to light after 43-year-old Pramod Devatlal informed Vedantnagar police about a foul smell coming from the couple’s house. Soon a team led by inspector Rameshwar Rodge rushed to the apartment in Ajinkya Floria society. Unable to break open the door, the police team entered the flat from the balcony and where the decomposed bodies were found.
The deceased have been identified as Vijay Mehendale (70), who is a former class-I official of Water and Land Management Institute, and his wife Madhuri (65). The bodies were taken to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for autopsy.
Police said that the couple has a daughter who has lives in the USA, while their other relatives refused to come forward. Later, police performed last rites of the couple. Police suspect that the duo might have died around 10 days ago. A case of accidental death has been registered, while autopsy report is awaited to confirm the exact cause of death.
