TV personality AJ Pritchard's girlfriend, Abbie Quinnen, suffered third-degree burns after she attempted to turn a glass bottle into a vase. The professional dancer was imitating a YouTube demonstration tutorial. What followed next was an utterly horrifying accident. The 23-year-old while trying to split a wine bottle in half with fire was engulfed in flames after the glass bottle exploded. The accident also set fire to her hair leaving her with severe burns and needing three skin grafts.
After she suffered burns trying the stunt, Quinnen took to Instagram to share a post wherein she warned fans to be extremely careful about imitating YouTube videos. The influencer also thanked nurses and doctors at the Chelsea & Westminster burns unit where she was receiving treatment for the last seven weeks. In a lengthy post, she shared on Instagram on Monday, she wrote, "it went terribly wrong and it resulted in me incurring injuries & burns requiring continuous hospital treatment (sic.)”
A recent photo of the dancer has been circulating online. It shows her body almost entirely covered in bandages after she got treated for her third-degree burns in hospital.
The dangerous stunt involved dipping a rope into a flammable substance, wrapping it over the bottle and lighting a flame. The Sun reported that AJ, 26, was quick thinking after the fire started. He doused flames and dialled 999. He sprang into action to extinguish the fire with a wet tea towel. A spokesperson for Quinnen was quoted as saying by The Sun. "Abbie has undergone surgery on her upper body and will continue to receive treatment.”
The Sun reported earlier that the couple are now actively discouraging their fans and social media followers from trying dangerous tricks like the one that got Abbie in hospital.
Abbie and AJ started dating in 2018, while the latter was still a professional dancer on Strictly.In 2020, AJ stepped down from the show to explore other opportunities on television and has since made an appearance on last year’s series of I’m A Celebrity. AJ and Curtis will soon make an appearance in Hollyoaks where they will be playing a pair of twin brothers.
