Assembly Election 2021 News LIVE Updates: Bharatiya Janata Party national president JP Nadda has released party manifesto ‘Sankalp Patra’ for the upcoming Legislative Assembly elections in Assam. Sources told News18 that BJP’s poll papers will include a promise on implementation of Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 (CAA), 10 lakh jobs for youth, dedicated tourist circuit for Barack and Brahmaputra areas and direct benefits transfer in women account through Arunodaya scheme. There could be special focus on protecting linguistic identity of Assam and special incentive for the tea garden workers.
Elections for the 126-seat Assam assembly are scheduled to take place in three phases from March 27 to April 6. The results will be announced on May 2. In 2016, the BJP scripted history and formed the government for the first time in the state ending Congress’s 15-year rule. BJP and its allies AGP and Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) won a combined 86 seats in the 126-member Assam assembly. BJP had bagged 60 seats, AGP 14, and BPF 12 seats. This time the BPF has joined the Congress-led coalition ‘Mahajath’ after breaking away from the BJP-led BJP is contesting the polls in Assam in alliance with Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) alliance.
Meanwhile, in poll-bound Tamil Nadu, seizure of cash and kind valued at Rs 231.63 crore has been recovered by various enforcement agencies so far, Chief Electoral Officer Satyabrata Sahoo said on Monday. Sahoo, responding to reporters’ queries on the sudden spurt in coronavirus cases in the state and if it will have a bearing on the polls, said “everything is going as per plan and we are in close touch with the health department.” “And whatever Standard Operating Procedures they are asking us to follow or asking the general public to follow..is being done.. so election will be held (as planned),” he said.

BJP's Nandigram Nominee Suvendu Adhikari Harbouring Criminals: TMC Tells EC | The Trinamool Congress has lodged a complaint with the Election Commission accusing BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari of "harbouring criminals" in Nandigram, where he is pitted against West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. The ruling party in the state also alleged that outsiders of the high-profile constituency have been staying at four locations there. The TMC also charged Adhikari, the protege-turned- adversary of Banerjee, of visiting one of these locations. "It has come to our knowledge that Suvendu Adhikari, the candidate fielded by BJP in Nandigram has been harbouring criminals, who are non-residents of Nandigram," the letter dated March 22 said.

Sunderbans to be Made Separate District if BJP Comes to Power: Amit Shah | Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that if the BJP came to power in West Bengal in the upcoming assembly elections, the deltaic Sunderbans region would be declared as a separate district. "In 2015, 2016 and 2019, Didi had announced that her government would declare Sunderbans as a district. But the Trinamool Congress government has not done anything so far. If the BJP is voted to power this time, we will make the Sunderbans a separate district within one year of coming to power in Bengal," Shah said, while addressing a public meeting at Gosaba today.
Karaikal Fishermen to Boycott Puducherry Polls | Several people from a fisher community spread across five constituencies of Puducherry's Karaikal region have threatened to boycott the April 6 Assembly elections if the demands they have raised were not met with. Karaikal being a coastal region, has huge presence of fishermen community who has always voted in the elections. The area is an enclave of Puducherry state which is going to assembly elections along with neighbouring Tamil Nadu. John Jerry, a fisherman and leader of the United Fishermen Association told IANS: "We will not cast our votes in the upcoming assembly elections. We have raised demands for construction of roads and more facilities for fishing besides provision of drinking water -- that must be met."
