Biden administration opens second child migrant facility in Carrizo Springs amid escalating crisis


The Biden administration introduced Tuesday that it’s opening a second facility to course of child migrants in Carrizo Springs, Texas — the latest move by the administration to deal with a surge in migrant numbers on the border.

The Department of Health and Human Services’ (HHS) Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) stated that the facility, referred to as Carrizo Springs II, will accommodate 500 unaccompanied youngsters (UACs) in hard-sided buildings.

“Additional semi-permanent [soft-sided] capacity may be added if necessary, though ORR will always prioritize placing children in hard-sided structures over semi-permanent structures,” an ORR spokesperson stated.

The opening of the primary Carrizo Springs facility had been introduced in early February, however numbers of unaccompanied youngsters, and migrants on the border extra broadly, have dramatically elevated since then.
