- Zurenah Smit and Derek Sait made a brief appearance in the Stellenbosch Magistrate's Court.
- The case was postponed to 7 May.
- This is the first of two appearances scheduled for the pair this week.
The woman accused of the murder of her husband, farmer Stefan Smit, started her week with an appearance in the Stellenbosch Magistrate's Court on Tuesday, and that is where she will end the week too.
Zurenah Smit's appearance, along with co-accused Derek Sait, was for charges relating to the 2018 theft of two guns, which were believed to have been used in the 2019 murder. They have been charged with theft and the possession of firearms and ammunition. It is alleged that one of the firearms belonged to Smit's ex-wife and the other to his deceased mother.
The case was postponed to May 7.
But they will be back in the dock on Friday along with Sait's brother-in-law, Steven Damon, for the murder case.
Damon is the only one of the three who is still behind bars.
Smit was shot dead on Louiesenhof wine farm when armed suspects barged into the couple's home through an unlocked door while they were having dinner with a friend.
Smit, Sait – who was employed to investigate attacks on Smit's farms – and his brother-in-law were arrested a year and a half after the killing. The State alleges that he was assassinated but that it was made to look like a hit that land occupiers executed.
Zurenah's two co-accused were both employed by the couple after the 2018 occupation of Watergang, which Smit's family owned via a trust.
Damon, Sait and Sait's brother, Bradley van Eyslend, the head of security, had all been on duty that night but none heard the shots that killed Smit, even though they were fired in an adjacent room.
