Nissan India has announced a price hike of all its models including the newly launched Magnite in the Indian market. The prices of Nissan’s sub-brand Datsun will also increase. The new prices will be effective from 1st April 2021.

The manufacturer claims that they are forced to take the step due to the continuous rise in the prices of automobile components. The new hike will be applicable across all the models of Nissan and Datsun selling in India. However, Nissan did not announce the hiked amount. All the different models and variants will get a different price increase.

Rakesh Srivastava, Managing Director, Nissan Motor India Pvt Ltd, said

”There has been continuous escalation in auto component prices, and we have tried to absorb this escalation over the last few months. We are now constrained to increase our prices across all Nissan & Datsun models, the increase varies from variant to variant, while still offering the best value proposition to its discerning Indian customers.”

Nissan’s latest car – the Magnite is in huge demand in the market. Launched in the Indian market at the end of 2020, the Magnite received a price hike at the start of this year when Nissan’s introductory price offer came to an end. Nissan launched the Magnite with a base price of Rs 4.99 lakh, which shocked a lot in the market and the industry. Earlier this year, Nissan again revised the price of the Magnite as it hiked the prices by Rs 30,000.

However, with the price hikes, the effective price as of this moment is Rs 5.49 lakh, ex-showroom, for the base variant. We are not sure if Nissan will change the price of the base model of the car. It is currently the second most affordable vehicle in the Indian market following the Renault Kwid, which was recently launched at an introductory price. Both Kwid and Magnite are built on the same platform.

Production increased

Nissan Magnite and the newly launched Renault Kwid are manufactured at the Renault Nissan Automotive India Pvt Ltd near Chennai. The plant has a production capacity of 400,000 units ever year. With the rise in demand for both the newly launched vehicles, the plant has entered a third shift on the production line.

The Nissan Magnite has a long waiting period. In a few cities, the waiting period can extend to months depending on the colour and the variant. Nissan offers a total of 9 colours with the Magnite including four dual-tone shades. It gets a long list of features too including L-shaped LED Daytime Running Lamps, fully digital instrument cluster and an instrument cluster that supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Additional features are avalailable with the Techno Pak that adds features like a wireless charger, air purifier, puddle lamps, ambient lights, and JBL speakers.

Nissan offers two engine options with the Magnite and both are petrol options. There is a 1.0-litre naturally-aspirated petrol that generates 72 PS – 92 Nm. It gets a 5-speed manual transmission only. There is a more powerful 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that generates a maximum power of 100 PS and peak torque of 160 Nm. It is available with a manual as well as an automatic CVT.
