India vs England Live Score, Live Cricket Score, 1st ODI, Live Updates: India vs England live score, IND 51-0 (13): That was a superb over from Sam Curran. That one had pace, bounce and of course swing. Rohit Sharma was found wanting on both occasions. Commentators were wondering how can those balls not kiss the edge of his bat.
The series provides the opportunity for India to give an extended run to two big players who were out of form in the T20I series against England. KL Rahul has registered three ducks in his last five T20I innings and Yuzvendra Chahal was their most expensive bowler in the just-concluded series. Rahul has an excellent record for India in ODI cricket with 1332 runs in 34 innings at an average touching 46 and strike rate of almost 88. India have lately preferred him to play at number 5 from where he recorded a magnificent hundred against New Zealand at Mount Maunganui.
Test series: 3-1. T20I series: 3-2. Now for the last leg of England’s tour of India, which the hosts have dominated so far. England have competed well in phases through the tour, but are yet to win a series. As defending champions of the World Cup, they’ll hope the ODIs is the format they will get one up on India. Can they do that in the three match series?
It won’t be easy given they don’t have two key players in Jofra Archer and Joe Root. Archer is nursing an injured elbow while Root has been left out due to England’s rotation system.

India too don’t have Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja, but at home, they always have the edge over opponents irrespective of format.
The last time India played an ODI series was back in November 2020 in Australia which they lost to Australia 1-2 as Steve Smith & Co out-batted them in the first two games.

In those games, India’s bowling let them down badly. In the last match of that series though the bowlers came good helping India manage a consolation win.
India’s bowling has received a boost for this series with Bhuvneshwar Kumar returning to the side and playing a man-of-the-match role in the last T20 match. Shardul Thakur too is in fine form while India also have the uncapped Prasidh Krishna in their ranks. It’s likely that he will get his cap in the series, maybe even in the first match.
On the batting front, Virat Kohli confirmed that Shikhar Dhawan will return to open with Rohit Sharma. It remains to be seen if Suryakumar Yadav, who did well in the T20 series, will make his ODI debut. If Prasidh Krishna and Suryakumar make their debuts, it will be an indication that India are looking at ODI options for the long run.
Rishabh Pant too has been included after missing the one-day series in Australia, but how they will fit him and KL Rahul remains to be seen. Rahul has been their wicketkeeper in ODIs in recent times, but given Pant’s form, that could change.
In a year with the World Test Championship and the T20 World Cup, the ODIs stick out as unnecessary especially with the 50-over World Cup a couple of years away. However, Kohli hinted in the press conference that the team will look to develop a part of their T20 game in the ODIs.
England might be missing Root and Archer but have plenty of depth especially in the batting. Eoin Morgan, Jason Roy, Jonny Bairstow, Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes apart from Sam Billings and Moeen Ali makes for a deadly batting unit.
The bowling looks weakened in Archer’s absence, which is something India will want to capitalise on.
