New Delhi: The Minister of Chemicals and Fertilizers, DV Sadananda Gowda, said on Tuesday that the government is eager to implement direct cash transfer of fertilizer subsidy to farmers “at the earliest time”, but adds that no final decision has been made yet not.
Gowda further said during question time that the government has taken several steps to reduce the use of chemical fertilizers.
“The intention of the government is that fertilizer subsidy should go directly to the bank account of farmers,” he said.
According to current practice, the government transfers subsidies to fertilizer companies, while farmers buy the product at a lower rate.
Gowda said he was also going to give rise to the Chintan Shivir Working Group on Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) to farmers and there have already been 3-4 interaction sessions with the state government and with farmers.
‘But the final decision has not yet been made. We are eager to do this as soon as possible, ”he said.
