LUCKNOW: The Lucknow division of northern railway operated record 247 goods trains in 24 hours on Monday.
The feat was achieved on the existing 1500km long network. The average speed of freight trains was recorded at 58.6 km/ph.
As per the railway officials, around one million tonne of freight, including coal, containers, cement, sugar, food grain, iron ore and clinker were transported in this duration.
The highest traffic was handled by 321km long Mughal Sarai (Pt Deen Dayal Upadhyay)-Varanasi-Alamnagar section followed by Kanpur-Lucknow-Varanasi section.
Speaking to TOI, divisional railway manager of Lucknow division Sanjay Tripathi said, “Our pervious record of maximum freight operation in a day was 232 trains on February 28. Since the division has country’s most dense web of freight train network, our prime job is to provide hassle-free and end-to-end direct throughput connectivity of high-speed freight service.”
