Set up sheep training institute in Telangana: TRS MP to center

Hyderabad: Telangana sought the establishment of a Central Sheep Training Institute in the state to provide training on scientific sheep education, the provision of quality feed, vaccines, medicines and sheep shelter.

G Ranjith Reddy, TRS MP, made a special mention in Lok Sabha on Tuesday, saying Telangana is the best in the sheep population in the country. The sheep population accounts for 59 percent of the total livestock in the state and therefore there was a need to set up the institute, he said.

He pointed out that India was in second place in the sheep population, with a population of 74 million making up 14 per cent of the total livestock. “There is a huge demand for mutton and manure. In addition, sheep farming offers good work and livelihood to five poor and struggling families. However, they do not get the financial benefits they deserve due to unscientific rearing, reduced grazing and health-related issues of sheep, ‘he said.
