Team India’s Suryakumar Yadav made his international debut in the recently concluded T20I series against England. Yadav made a sensational start, as he smashed a quickfire 31-ball 57 runs in his first innings. He then followed it with a breezy cameo of 17-ball 32 runs in the series-decider T20I on Saturday to the home side to keep momentum after opener Rohit Sharma was sent back after scoring 64 from 34 balls.
After making a remarkable international debut, Yadav was roped in the Indian squad for the ongoing three-match ODI series. However, in a latest twist, he was left out from the Indian Playing XI for the 1st ODI at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune on Tuesday. Skipper Virat Kohli decided to go with an experienced batting line-up comprising Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, Shreyas Iyer, and KL Rahul and has baffled many.
Former England captain and full-time pundit Michael Vaughn, who recently predicted the final scoreline of the ongoing ODI series between Kohli and Eoin Morgan led sides, feels that the hosts should have included Yadav in the playing XI against the visitors.
Speaking on Cricbuzz, Vaughan said that he understands with India resting Rishabh Pant butthey may have put up a strong unit if Kohliwould have gone ahead with Yadav in the team.
“India are still powerful. But I am surprised by the team selection. Suryakumar Yadav is who I would have played,” Vaughan said.
He was also of the opinion that he would have added Yadav in the Indian line-up on the back of his splendid T20I performances against England. “I think it’s so important that when a player comes in and sets the lights like he did, you carry on with him. I think he’s such a good player, he can easily adapt to the 50-over game,” the veteran added.
