New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi Tuesday urged BJP parliamentarians to go out and continue working for the people and publicise the government’s initiatives, while he also spoke about the “most difficult challenge” Covid-19 posed, especially for him, sources told ThePrint.

At the parliamentary party meeting, the PM spoke at length on the work undertaken by the government in 2020 when a lockdown was imposed to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus, a senior BJP leader said.

“PM spoke at length on how 2020 proved to be the most difficult year for him [in his tenure as the chief minister of Gujarat for 13 years and as the PM for nearly seven years now]. He said that it posed many challenges — of ensuring a timely lockdown, working on the vaccine, ensuring food was provided to the people. He also pointed out how he continued jan seva and did not take a single off during the past 20 years,” said another BJP leader.

‘Continue working for people’

The Prime Minister, a third BJP MP pointed out, said that the party leaders should continue working for the people and once the Parliament session is over, they should go out and inform people of the work done so far.

“Certain narrative is always built, as was done during the lockdown too. But people understand the reality and the work undertaken by the BJP government. The Bihar election was a good example of that as the people reposed their faith in the BJP,” said the leader.

According to another party MP, the issue of Covid pandemic and the measures undertaken by the government were spoken about at length.

The parliamentary party meeting, which was initially scheduled for 17 March, was cancelled following the death of BJP MP Ram Swaroop Sharma. Union Ministers Harsh Vardhan, Nirmala Sitharaman, S. Jaishankar, Prakash Javadekar and Prahlad Patel among others attended Tuesday’s meeting.
