'Kohli and Dhoni are Disgraces' - England Player Matt Parkinson's Old Tweets Resurface Before 1st ODI

England cricketer Matt Parkinson has earned the ire of Indian fans ahead of the ODI series against England for his old tweets on Indian cricketers including MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja

England cricketer Matt Parkinson has earned the ire of Indian fans ahead of the ODI series against England for his old tweets on Indian cricketers including MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja. Parkinson, 24, was trending on social media after users dug out old tweets where he called Kohli and Dhoni ‘disgraces’ while also questioning Jadeja’s batting skills.

Parkinson’s tweets dated from 2012 to 2014, when he would have been a 15 to 17 year old.

Parkinson, a legspinner, has played two ODIs and two T20Is each. He was not picked in the XI for the first ODI.

Meanwhile, India skipper Virat Kohli is long due for a century and if he does get one in the upcoming ODI series against England, he will come a step closer to equalling Sachin Tendulkar’s record and surpass Ricky Ponting. While his last ton came in November 2019, if Kohli gets to the three-figure mark, there are a host of records that he would make.

A ton will take him at par with Tendulkar, for Indian batsman with most centuries at home, in ODIs. Apart from that, he would also become the captain with most centuries in international cricket across formats, surpassing Ponting. For now, both these players have 41 tons as skipper.

Ahead of the first ODI against England, Kohli explained his surprising call in the fifth T20 and why he will open in the IPL, a move that attracted a lot of attention.

“Firstly, the combination that plays on the field, selectors don’t have any role to play in that, just how the team management doesn’t have any role in selection,” said Kohli.

“Secondly, as Rohit mentioned, it was a strategic move but yes we did enjoy batting with each other, we did enjoy that partnership and we saw the effects of us batting together…

“…it’s not a guarantee that this is going to be continued in future.”
