Petrol and diesel prices have hit all-time high this year. Common people across the country are voicing their opinions against the rise in prices. Petrol and diesel prices have hit all-time high this year. Common people across the country are voicing their opinions against the rise in prices. Centre and state have been collecting separate tax for petrol and diesel which is becoming a burden on common man. In the last 6 years, the petrol and diesel tax collection surged by 300%.

The debate on this issue is going on very seriously and in a recent parliament meet, Union minister for Finance, anurag thakur addressed the issue on demand of the opposition parties. He said that the state governments should reduce taxes on petrol so that the Centre will also try to reduce tax on petrol.

He said that the Centre was ready to bring the petroleum products under the GST ambit. He invited the state governments to come discuss the matter with the centre about bringing up petroleum products under the GST. He presented the statistics live and said that the international crude oil prices had gone up from Rs 1,377 per barrel in march last year to the current cost of Rs 4,712 approximately.

According to the reports, the andhra pradesh state government is collecting 31% tax on petrol and diesel right now, which is ten times of what it used to be five years back.
