UPDATE (March 23rd, 2021):

Ming-Chi Kuo has now claimed that Apple's AR headset will likely feature Fresnel lenses. These are said to be helpful in increasing the headset's field of view while also keeping them light. The latter part is crucial as it will allow users to keep them on for long sessions without feeling tired or burdened. In fact, it is expected to be relatively lighter than what other VR and AR headsets usually weigh.

Original (March 19th, 2021):

A new report has surfaced about Apple's plans for its first pair of mixed reality headsets. The report is based on the latest research notes shared by Ming-Chi Kuo who was also the source for many of the previous leaks. He has revealed that Apple's first mixed reality headset will feature an eye-tracking system.

Kuo says that this system will include a transmitter and a receiver for collecting data related to eye movements. The majority of the currently available mixed reality headsets rely on hand-held controllers to gather this information. Apple's approach will make it more intuitive for users to interact with the virtual aspects of the whole experience.

It is quite possible that we might even see the iris recognition but it seems like an unlikely possibility for now. If this happens, it will make the headset even more useful. It is said to be used for authenticating Apple Pay transactions within the virtual world. This will particularly be useful for making in-app purchases or buying new content.

A previous report claimed that Apple will launch the mixed reality headset by the end of 2022. We are still over a year away from the release and in the meantime, we are expected to see more reports and leaks coming our way.
