Covid-19: Telangana announces closure of educational institutions

Hyderabad: Take note of rising COVID-19 affairs in the state, educational institutions across Telangana will be temporarily closed from tomorrow.

In the State Assembly, Sabita Indira Reddy, Minister of State for Education, made an announcement on Tuesday. Except for medical schools, all other educational institutions will be closed, the minister said.

Online classes will continue as usual, she added.

This decision by the Telangana government came after educational institutions were temporarily closed in Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Chattisgarh, Haryana and Puducherry.

Telangana witnessed a speed in COVID-19 affairs, with the past few days reports from schools and residences.

Schools for class 9 and higher were reopened from 1 February this year, after a gap of almost 11 months. For classes 6 to 8, schools reopened on March 1st. Special precautions were taken, including regular temperature checks and sanitation facilities.

The state reported 412 new cases in the past 24 hours, with a maximum of 103 people testing positive within the boundaries of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC).
