Mumbai: After the recently concluded test series India and England reached the highest opening day since 2019, the highest number of viewers has been tested in the last five years, recording a staggering 1.3 million viewers average audience (AMA) audience. The result is a testament to the growing popularity of the longest format, which also gained momentum with the launch of the World Test Championship. The test series recorded a phenomenal cumulative reach of 103 million viewers.
Sanjog Gupta, Head – Sports, Star India, commented on the number of viewers: ‘We are delighted with the response to the Test series. The resumption of international cricket in India after almost a year, a high interest in the series with a place in the World Cup final at stake and quality opposition, provided the ideal context for the series. It was enhanced by Star’s high-decibel marketing campaign (Taiyar Hai in India) and regional customization in four Indian languages, providing the scene for record viewers. If we keep the momentum going, we will continue to offer viewers an action-packed summer cricket with the upcoming one – day matches of India and England, followed by VIVO IPL 2021 and the World Test Championship. “
Every game in the series was important to ensure the qualification in the WTC final, and with excellent performances from Axar Patel, R. Ashwin, Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant, the series had the right context for ardent cricket fans. After a crushing 3-1 victory in the series, Team India set up a major clash with New Zealand in the final on June 2021. Star Sports promises to entertain and engage fans with the best program activities before the finals. Meanwhile, it’s time for cricket with limited overs to take center stage with the current T20Is and the upcoming ODIs starting from 23 March.
