It is reported that many travellers from Kerala are using fake negative reports to enter Karnataka , after the Karnataka government put strict travel regulations due to the surge in cases.
Many people from Kerala have tried to enter Karnataka by producing fake Covid-19 negative certificates, say officials in Kodagu district. The staff at border checkpoints have been extra vigilant following the detection of such attempts.
Up to 500 vehicles, mostly ones transporting goods, arrive from Kerala daily. It is mandatory for the drivers and accompanying staff to produce the latest RT-PCR test certificate before entering the district. The reports usually have a QR code, which can be scanned to confirm the negative result.
In some instances, officials found that the codes didn’t work and the certificates had other discrepancies. For instance, the certificates of two unrelated people had the same sample collection date and time and reference number. Kodagu superintendent of police Kshama Mishra said that in all such cases, travellers were denied entry.
