Third-party logistics shipments grew by 70% in Q4 2020

New Delhi: As online shopping continues to pick up, third-party logistics (3PL) shipments grew by 70 percent in the month of October-December 2020, contributing 45 percent of shipping volume to the e-tailing industry, a new report said Monday . .

The 3PL sent 750 million, which was a growth of 450 million in the period July-September2020.

“The 3PL has tremendous room to grow in e-grocery and foodtech, as it completes only 10 percent and 5 percent in the respective sectors,” according to Bengaluru-based market intelligence firm RedSeer.

While 3PL grew by 107 million shipments in July-September 2020, it grew by only two million in the eGrocery space in the same period, indicating that it is a long way ahead.

Online retail in India has grown more than three times in the last four years and will soon be bigger.

“As customers become more aware and comfortable with online shopping, delivery experience will become an important parameter in keeping customers on board, and therefore this report provides some valuable insights into this competitive market,” the report notes.

Platforms such as Xiaomi, Decathlon and Dunzo have emerged as forerunners in their respective sectors in terms of satisfying high delivery experiences.

While captive logistics has become prominent, third-party logistics (3PL) now also plays a key role.

‘However, the role of 3PL players differs from vertical to different. Although it makes a major contribution to digital indigenous brands (DNB) and other emerging brands, it is still low in e-grocery and food technology, “the findings showed.

Due to smaller scale, there is a definite need for partnerships with third-party logistics platforms to complete the last mile and with the rise of ‘delivery’ as an important factor in promoting customer satisfaction, ‘it is essential that these brands / platforms offers the best of the class delivery experience to promote overall customer satisfaction ”.

To understand how vertical-to-branch delivery experience differs and how brands can enhance their customer experience, ResSeer launched ‘Delivery Delight Index’ in collaboration with Shadowfax.

‘Delivery Delight Index’ has been developed to 9,000 consumer surveys covering 34 players on four types of platforms – email markets, hyperlocal markets, digital indigenous brands and traditional brands / retailers.
