CHENNAI: The
Tamil Nadu government on Monday ordered all colleges, universities and deemed universities to conduct only online classes from March 23 due to rising
Covid-19 cases in the state.
An order issued by chief secretary Rajeev Ranjan said colleges should complete all practical classes and practical exams before March 31. They have been asked to conduct end semester exams only in online mode.
In view of the recent spike in the number of Covid-19 cases, the chief secretary conducted a videoconference with vice-chancellors, director of public health and preventive medicine and other health officials.
"Following the spike in Covid-19 cases and to avoid students and the general public getting affected, all higher educational institutions functioning under higher education department and deemed universities will conduct online classes for six days a week from March 23. The government issued orders to complete practical exams for science, engineering and polytechnic final year students before March 31 and conduct end semester exams only in online mode," Rajeev Ranjan said.
After remaining closed since Mach 2020, colleges were reopened on February 8 this year.
