Delhi news live: City bans public Holi celebration

The Lok Sabha on Monday passed the bill that makes it clear that the “government” in Delhi means the “lieutenant governor”. While chief minister Arvind Kejriwal called the passage of the bill an “insult” to the people of Delhi, Congress MP Manish Tewari said it was “unconstitutional”. Junior home minister G Kishan Reddy said the bill was necessary to end “ambiguity” and “will enhance the efficiency of the administration”. In a major reform, the Delhi government has reduced the drinking age in the city from 25 to 21, removing an anomaly in its excise policy. Delhi was among a few states and Union territories that had a higher age bar even as the rest of the country had moved on. In what can prove to be a major gamechanger, the government has also announced that it will exit the liquor business. The national capital reported over 800 fresh coronavirus cases for the third day on the trot on Monday. Seven people succumbed to the viral disease, the highest since February 4. The number of active cases rose to 3,934 from 3,618 a day ago, while the case positivity remained over one % for the third consecutive day, according to the health bulletin issued by Delhi government.
