HYDERABAD: In order to improve groundwater table, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) has swung into action to restore 3,000 rainwater harvesting (RWH) pits, which are built on the premises of government offices, in the city.
On Monday, Telangana minister for animal husbandry, Talasani Srinivas Yadav has launched the restoration of a total of 1,000 RWH pits in the city, on the occasion of ‘World Water Day’ celebrations.
Other TRS legislators including Uppal MLA, Bethi Subhash Reddy, Jubilee Hills MLA, Maganti Gopinath, and GHMC corporators took part in the restoration of RWH pits programme, across the city.
Speaking on the occasion, HMWS&SB officials said that they were targeted to restore 3,000 RWH pits by the end of May, and keep ready for onset monsoon to recharge them rainwater.
HMWS&SB managing director, M Dana Kishore who attended a programme held on the occasion of ‘World Water Day’ at Institution of Engineers (IEI), Khairatabad, said, “World has to be valued and water conservation should be given importance since water is so common in life and water banks are essential in the next on the similar lines of blood banks.
