Watch: Gallery collapses during Kabaddi tournament in Suryapet, more than 100 injured

Suryapet: At least 100 people were injured when a temporary gallery collapsed during the first ceremony of the 47th Junior National Kabaddi Tournament late Monday night at the police parade ground.

The gallery, which was erected across the stage for the entrance program, had about 1,500 people, including players. Most injuries were sustained on the lower limbs. The injured were immediately transported to the Area Hospital by 108 ambulances. Two players, who sustained serious injuries, were moved to a hospital in Hyderabad for better treatment. Kabaddi players from 29 states are in Suryapet to take part in the tournament.

About 90 tons of iron material and 60 tons of wood were used to set up the gallery, which was 20 feet high and 240 feet long. The accident took place a few minutes before the arrival of the guests for the entrance program.
