CPI chief says no change in stand on Sabarimala

The CPI, the second largest partner in the ruling LDF in Kerala,on Monday made it clear there will be no change in the state government's stand before the Supreme Court that a decision on entry of women in menstrual age into the famous Sabarimala hill shrine should be taken by a panel of experts and scholars of Hinduism.

While the CPI maintained that the affidavit took the position that it was not for the government to decide the issue of allowing women in the traditionally barred age group of 10-50 into the temple of Lord Ayyappa, the BJP claimed the affidavit backed their entry into Sabarimala.

The principal Opposition Congress also attacked the LDF, saying the CPI's statement meant the government still backed entry of young women.

First thing we'll do after coming to power in Kerala is NYAY Yojana, vows Rahul Gandhi

Raising the issue of unemployment, Rahul Gandhi said, "When we were in power in UDF ( in Kerala), and in the UPA in Delhi, we understood how to run the economy. Economists write long theories on this but it is actually very simple. First thing you need is harmony. And the second thing you need is you need to put money in people's hands. If those two things happen, India's economy will grow."

"The prime minister did demonetisation, he applied a floor GST and then corona struck. We told the government to put money into people's hands immediately. Dont waste time because the economic engine needs to be started quickly. They did nothing," he alleged. He also said the economy started working because of UPA implementing MGNREGA and farm loan waivers. "The first thing that we will do when we come to power in Kerala is NYAY Yojna" he said.

"We will raise the welfare pension to Rs 3000 per month and we will give a right of income to homemakers between the age of 40-60 years of Rs 2000 per month. We will ensure MSP for rubber, coconut and paddy," he said.

According to reports,, the BJP manifesto also says that if voted to power, the party will enact “strict anti-conversion laws" to criminalise religious conversion by "force or allurement". The Election Commission has banned 'bike rallies' 72 hours before the date of polling and on the polling day in all election-going constituencies amid reports that "anti-social elements" use motor bikes to intimidate voters.

In a directive issued to chief electoral officers of poll-bound West Bengal, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Assam and Puducherry, the poll body pointed out that it has been brought to its notice that "in some places bikes are used by anti-social elements to intimidate the voters before the poll day and/or on poll day."

After considering the reports, the Commission has decided that "bike rallies shall not be allowed at any place 72 hours before date of poll or on the poll day in all poll-going constituencies," the directive said. The EC also asked its chief electoral officers to inform all stakeholders concerned, including candidates, political parties and the Commission's observers, to ensure strict compliance of the directions.

When Assam was burning, why didn't he feel sorry? Why didn't he appear before you?"
