Madras HC allows campaign rallies, orders parties to follow pandemic norms

CHENNAI: The Madras high court on Monday advised political parties and candidates to ensure that everyone attending campaign rallies wear face masks and adhere to social distancing norms. It ordered the Election Commission to issue instructions to all candidates.

On Sunday, Tamil Nadu reported 1,289 new Covid-19 cases and 9 new deaths. Of these, 466 cases were from Chennai. The number of cases in the state have been steadily rising over the last few weeks.

The state has recorded 866,982 cases so far and 846,480 people have survived while 12,599 people died. The Tamil Nadu polls for 234 seats will be held on April 6.
