Chitrakoot, Mar 22 (UNI) Following the deaths of three more people after consuming spurious liquor in the Khopa village in the Rajapur area here, the number of deaths in the case have risen to seven, police spokesperson said on Monday.
The spokesperson said that four people continue to be in a critical condition.
Notably, taking the deaths caused by consuming spurious liquor in the Khopa village of the Rajapur area of the district seriously, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had suspended SDM Rajapur Rahul Kashyap Vishwakarma, Circle Officer (CO) Rajapur Ramprakash and District Excise Officer Chatar Sen, Chitrakoot for failing to discharge supervisory duties on Sunday night itself.
Apart from this, Police Inspector Anil Singh, Brijesh Pandey (Sub-Inspector), Halka In-charge and Beat Constable, Rajapur Bhupendra Singh and Lekhpal Rajesh Singh have been suspended in view of negligence in the incident. Alongside, village chowkidar Khopa, Sunil Kumar's service has been terminated.
Action has been taken against a total of 11 people in the case. Along with this, the liquor shop of Ram Prakash Yadav, a native liquor licensee of the area, has been sealed and has been taken into custody. The administration has also sealed the grocery shop of Trilok Singh in the village and taken the shopkeeper in custody too.
Notably, after the reservation list of the Panchayat elections in Khopa village of Rajapur area in Chitrakoot had been released on Saturday, several people had celebrated the coming of general seat of the village by consuming liquor. However, the condition of one Sitaram (50) started deteriorating after consuming the alcohol and he was admitted to a private hospital but he succumbed while receiving treatment.
Apart from this, five people had been admitted to the Community Health Center, Rajapur for treatment where Munna Singh (40) also succumbed. Following this, the doctors referred the remaining four people to Prayagraj. However, Satyam Singh (25) and Durg Vijay (25) had also died on the way to the hospital.
