CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu chief electoral officer Satyabrata Sahoo on Monday promised that Election Commission will take action against those involved in dubious online transfer of money not just in Thondamuthur assembly segment, but in all the ten constituencies in Coimbatore district.
He has alerted the district collectors and district election officers to take appropriate action against any illegal activities in all the constituencies, where ministers are contesting the assembly election in Tamil Nadu.
In a letter to a letter to DMK organization secretary and Rajya Sabha MP R S Bharathi, Sahoo said the Election Commission would take action against any dubious transactions involving money transfer through G Pay or other such platforms if it is brought to the notice of it about the sender or receiver.
Sahoo's letter was in response to a complaint lodged by Bharathi over minister S P Velumani collecting mobile numbers from the public for allegedly transferring money to them through G Pay and other such platforms. Velumani is contesting from the Thondamuthur assembly segment for the April 6 election.
"We have already directed the bankers, at a meeting held on March 9, 2021, to be on alert about such dubious transactions and to alert the EC and Income Tax authorities on transactions exceeding Rs 10 lakh, " Sahoo said. A meeting was specifically held for the Coimbatore district on March 19, 2021.
