Leopard cat, turtle released on International Forest Day

A Leopard cat (Prionailurus bengalensis) was released into the wild today by the Kakching Forest staff on the eve of the International Forest Day observance.
The Leopard cat was rescued by N Biteshwor of Kakching Makha Leikai from Kakching Uyya Loukon and handed over to the Kakching Forest department.
Speaking to media persons, N Munal Meitei, Range Forest Office Kakching, mentioned that the leopard cat has become an endangered species protected under the Wildlife Protection Act 1972 now due to the constant poaching and deforestation over the years.
He continued that with the coming of the International Forest Day, let's save our valued forests and plan for a large scale plantation in the next rainy season for the sake of our mother Earth and the future generations.
In another instance, on the auspicious day of International Forest Day, a team of Forest Officers of Tamenglong Forest Division namely Joel Gangmei, RFO; T Tiken Singh, RFO; M Jobid, RFO; M Bakendra, FG; A Debajit Singh, FG along with the chairman of Dailong Village Authority and Darniel Marcus Macwan of Tamenglong Animals Home released a turtle at Dailong Biodiversity Heritage Site today.
The turtle measures 510 gm in weight and 18 cm in length.
Keijinbui Gonmei, chairman, further appealed to the villagers to not hunt wild animals in the Biodiversity Heritage site.
