Imphal, March 21 2021:
The 25kms run carrying a message of peace, health and education was stopped by the Police before completion.
Pangeijam Saratchandra, secretary, EK Higher Secondary School, had planned to cover the 25kms distance passing various landmarks today.
The run was flagged off from the ground of Heingang Mayai Leikai Sports and Development Committee, however all the cyclists following him were detained and the 4 wheeler vehicle along with the public address system were also seized by a team of Heingang Police Station.
P Saratchandra continued the run along with some supporters and after crossing Kairangthong and Salanthong, he entered the EK school campus at Sangakpham and continued the run but was stopped again at Kontha Ahallup by the Police.
He continued the run after tussling with the Police only to be blocked at Khabam Lai Haraopham and finally stopped at Achanbigei.
The run was not allowed to be continued further after running just 13kms.Speaking to the media inside the campus of EK School at Sangakpham, P Saratchandra said the run was stopped by the Police on the ground that no prior permission was taken from the authority and that the run was in violation of Covid-19 SOP.
He added that it was really unfortunate that a run carrying a message of peace, health and education was obstructed by the Police.
P Saratchandra questioned whether the programme attended by the Chief Minister at Heingang was in adherence to the SOP and added how a solo run was in violation of SOP.
He expressed concern if his run was being viewed from a narrow political lens.
He also added that he will surely complete the 25kms run in future.
