Hyderabad: The promising tennis player from the city Shrivalli Rashmikaa made it a trilogy to national titles on Sunday when she knocked down top-seeded Vaidehi Choudhary from Gujarat to win the senior women’s crown in Gurugram.

The talented 19-year-old won two rugby players in the under-18 category last year and now she has bagged the senior women’s crown with a captivating victory. However, the second seeded player said she never thought she could win the crown before entering the tournament. ‘It’s like a dream come true. Rashmikaa, who recently graduated to the senior category, is only playing her second tournament in the women’s category and this victory will give her a lot of confidence. It helped me win the final. I beat some good players in the run up to the final. Before the final I thought I did not want to get nervous and play point by point and see how it goes. “Even after I won, it took me a while to realize it,” she reveals.

Rashmikaa, who is 15 in the AITA rankings, hopes to be by the end of the top 3, and this victory will lift her to the top 10. At the moment, my WTA ranking is 1100. And I want to be among the top 3 in the national rankings, ”she said.

She also revealed that the exclusion did not affect her game at all. ‘I was constantly in touch with my psychologist and in fact the period calmed me down. I’m calmer on the track now. And when I started training, I was back in full shape within a week, ”the youngster added.
