Seven more containment zones likely in Gurugram as Covid-19 cases spiking

The city currently has 21 containment zones.
GURUGRAM: The health department is going to recommend that the district administration increase the number of containment zones as Gurugram is witnessing an upward trend in the number of new Covid-19 cases. Officials from the department said seven more containment zones are likely to be added to the list. The city currently has 21 containment zones.
With 141 people testing positive for the virus on Sunday, the city’s caseload currently stands at 60,526. Since March 15, Gurugram has reported 691 new cases. The city recorded 342 fresh cases in the first week of March and added 500 cases the next week, which shows that the graph of new cases is gradually going upwards. The number of active cases has also jumped to 820 in Gurugram.

“As new cases of Covid have started increasing, we are going to revise the list of containment zones. We have suggested that seven more containment zones be created in the city. The hotspots reporting maximum cases of Covid are Chanderlok, Tigra and Wazirabad. The state government has directed us to enforce containment in the city and police have been told to intensify their drive for imposing challans on people not wearing masks,” said Virender Yadav, chief medical officer (CMO), Gurugram.
Health officials said Gurugram has been testing more than 4,000 people daily and they have set up testing camps across the city. In the last 24 hours, a total of 4,212 RT-PCR and rapid antigen tests were conducted in Gurugram. Of these, 4,013 are RT-PCR tests and 199 antigen tests. “The positivity rate in Gurugram is less than 5% and in case the positivity rates increase, we will revise our strategy accordingly,” added the CMO.
786 senior citizens get jabs

Vaccinations were carried out at 52 session sites at private healthcare facilities for senior citizens and people aged over 45 years with comorbidities. The turnout, however, remained low, and only 786 senior citizens turned up for vaccination on Saturday. A total of 493 people in the age group of 45 to 59 with comorbidities got inoculated.
“The vaccination drive was conducted only in private healthcare facilities on Saturday, which is the reason why turnout was low,” said Dr MP Singh, district immunisation officer.
