BENGALURU: Covid-19 cases in
Karnataka have been northbound for the past two weeks. On Sunday, the state reported 1,715 new coronavirus cases and 1,039 or 60% of them were from
Bengaluru city.
The state reported two deaths in past 24 hours. Udupi reported 170 new positive cases, Mysuru 70, Bidar 61 and Dakshina Kannada 54.
The state has till date reported 9,70,202 Covid-19 positive cases, and with 1,048 discharges on Sunday, 9,44,256 people have recovered and 12,434 have died due to the virus.
The active Covid-19 cases in the state have increased to 13,494 from 12,432 from Saturday. Bengaluru alone has 9,300 active Covid19 cases as on Sunday.
With 94,043 tests done in the last 24 hours, the total number of tests conduced by the state is 2,03,89,209. While the government is stressing scaling up tests, it has completed 41,23,091 Rapid Antigen tests and 1,61,64,278 RT-PCR tests.
On the 21st day after starting Covid19 vaccination for public, the state on Sunday vaccinated 2,895 persons in the 45-60 years with combordities. Till date about 2,86,014 have taken the first dose of vaccine in the above age group. Another 7,933 persons aged above 60 years took the first dose of vaccine, taking the total number of inoculated elders to 10,90,977.
Bengaluru has seen four fold rise in Covid cases in 20 days and Technical Advisory Committee has recommended the government to close common spaces in apartments, close gymnasiums and enforce Covid19 norms such as social distancing and wearing masks more effectively.
