CHATRA: A wanted
Maoist was arrested on Friday evening after he turned up for a Covid-19 test at the sadar hospital in
Chatra district, police said on Saturday.
SP Rishav Kumar Jha said police arrested Manish Yadav, who was involved in planting landmines to attack security forces in in 2015, after receiving a tip-off. Yadav, a resident of Dumarwar village under Kunda police station of the district, was sent to jail on Saturday after his test returned a negative result.
SDPO Avinash Kumar confirmed that Yadav was one of the three Maoists who had planted landmines in 2015 to target patrolling security forces. He said, "Yadav was evading police for the last six years and our efforts to nab him were futile. We were also seeking a court order to attach his properties." He added that soon after the police received a tip-off on Friday evening, ASI Shashi Thakur was assigned to lead a team of six policemen to lay a trap and apprehend Yadav. A doctor at the hospital said the Covid-19 infection has also become a cause for worry for the extremists.
