UDUPI:
Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT) campus has reported 145 fresh Covid-19 cases on Sunday.
Udupi district on Sunday reported 170 fresh cases, which includes 165 from Udupi taluk, four from
Kundapur and one from outside the district. The MIT
Manipal campus, which has around 5,800
students, was declared as a containment zone on March 17.
District health officer Dr Sudhir Chandra Sooda told TOI that the MIT authorities have been directed to increase vigilance in the campus, he said.
“Active surveillance is in place inside the MIT campus. Screening is being done to check for influenza like illness (ILI) and severe acute respiratory infections (SARI). Students are being made to undergo
RT-PCR tests. None of them are allowed to move outside the campus. We have given instructions to the MIT authorities to follow the containment rule strictly by not allowing students to move outside,” Dr Sooda said.
The district had recorded 66 fresh cases after conducting 1,973 tests on Saturday. Out of 66 cases, 42 were reported inside the MIT campus. With 145 fresh cases reported on Sunday, the total number of positive cases from the MIT, Manipal campus has increased to 299.
Community medicine department of
KMC and the health department are jointly conducting tests and monitoring the campus. Meanwhile, wardens and caretakers are providing food, medicines and other essentials to students inside the campus. Nearly 600 tests were conducted in the district on Sunday.
