Then, Sri Lanka Legends were restricted to 167/7 at the end of 20 overs as they fell short of the target by just 14 runs. Yusuf Pathan stole the show with his unbeaten 62 and his 2/26 with the ball.
Weeraratne changes the tone of the contest as he punishes Vinay in the eighteenth over of the contest. The hosts have a look of worry on their faces now as the batsman smacks a four and two vital maximums! 30 off 12 now! SLL: 152/4 (18 overs)
Tendulkar aims to maintain the pressure on the batsmen and brings back Munaf first, and then Gony in the death overs. The former conceded eight runs in his over while the latter gave away 9, but it's still not enough for Sri Lanka! SLL: 133/4 (17 overs)
Weeraratne wakes up from his slumber and smacks Irfan for a four and a six to get 13 runs off the over. SLL: 116/4 (15 overs)
Ever since Dilshan's dismissal, the entire batting order of Sri Lanka has been in free-fall. Irfan bags his second of the night as he dismisses Tharanga on 13. Jayasinghe ups the ante with a six in the next over, but it seems a bit too late. SLL: 103/4 (14 overs)
There's the third of the night and it's a big one! Yusuf delivers yet again and he is thrilled to bits. He slides in a quicker delivery at the pads and traps Jayasuriya between the wickets. The Sri Lanka legend walks back on 43 off 35 balls. SLL: 83/3 (11.1 overs)
The Pathan brothers continue with their spells, putting the opposition under pressure. Jayasuriya and Tharanga hold fort somehow as Sri Lanka manage to score just 17 runs in the last four overs. The former hits a four in the tenth over. SLL: 75/2 (10 overs)
There's the breakthrough for the hosts! First, Yusuf decides to shine with the ball too after his quickfire 62* in the first innings. He removes Dilshan (21) with the help of keeper Naman Ojha. After his brother broke the opening partnership, Irfan scalped the wicket of Chamara Silva (2) off a catch by Badrinath. Sri Lanka have been put on their backfoot a bit now. SLL: 65/2 (8.1 overs)
Pragyan Ojha bowls the 5th over, as India turn to spin. Dilshan cuts away for four against the spinner. Ojha, probably struggling because of the dew combined with the pressure of bowling to Jayasuriya on song, bowls a few wides. Vinay Kumar bowls the last Powerplay over, and he too continues the wides. Jayasuriya continues his fine form too. Slashes a four - one bounce and over the ropes - past point.
SL 58/0 after 6, Sanath on 31, Dilshan on 19. SL need 124 to win in 14 overs
Jayasuriya looks to unfurl. Flicks Gony for four to fine leg. Runs down the ball a few more times and runs hard to get a couple of runs. Munaf continues at the other end. Jayasuriya pulls him for four more. And next ball, there's a six, picked up off the pads and fired over deep midwicket. Dilshan picks up a full ball from Munaf and ends the over with four more. 29 runs have come in Munaf's 2 overs.
SL 39/0 after 4, need 143 to win in 16 overs
A great first over from Gony. A big LBW appeal against Jayasuriya in that over and just the one single from Dilshan. Munaf Patel takes the new ball alongside Gony. Jayasuriya advances down the track and slashes the gap past point for four.
SL 13/0 after 2
Dilshan and Jayasuriya are at the crease for Sri Lanka. Dilshan, the highest scorer of the tournament, takes strike. Manpreet Gony will open the attack for India.
In a curious co-incidence, Tendulkar was the highest Indian run-getter in the 2011 World Cup as well as the 2021 World Series. In both tournaments, the overall highest scorer has been Dilshan.

Irfan Pathan joins his brother at 6. Weeraratne drifts on Yusuf's pads and the right hander flicks it away for four. 7 runs in the 19th over. Kulasekara bowls the 20th over. Irfan takes a single off the first ball to hand the strike over to Yusuf. A very tidy over by Kulasekara to finish. Irfan Pathan smashes a six off the last ball to take the score above 180. India put up 181/4 in 20 overs. Sri Lanka will need 182 to win the match and the title.
Farvez Maharoof bowls the 18th over and it is another economical over from him. Just 4 runs off it. Maharoof ends with 1/16 in 4 overs, on a high-scoring day. Weeraratne, who went for 16 runs in his first over, bowls the 19th over. And Yuvraj is finally out, caught by Maharoof in the deep. Yuvraj falls for 60.

Two balls later, there's an action replay, but this time from the left-handed Yuvraj, who slams a six over the bowler's head. Last ball of the over, Yusuf deposits another six in the stands. IND 108/3 after 14, Yuvraj 44, Yusuf 14
Maharoof has conceded just 5 runs in his 2 overs so far and has taken the wicket of Tendulkar. What a performance. Sri Lanka go to more pace, encouraged by his success. Kulasekara bowls the 12th. Sri Lanka miss a run out opportunity. The throw is towards Yuvraj's end, as the keeper and Jayasinghe, the fielder, both ignore tha fact that Yusuf Pathan had given up the ghost at the other end.
IND 83/3 after 12
A wicket against the run of play! Maharoof's slower ball gets Tendulkar out, who was looking to scoop it over fine leg. The ball goes off Tendulkar's gloves and Tharanga takes an easy catch. Tendulkar is out for 30. Yusuf Pathan comes in at 5.
