CHANDIGARH: An advocate has accused a police constable posted as the personal security officer (PSO) of a SHO of passing lewd comments and harassing her outside a nightclub in Sector 26 on Friday night. A senior police official said an FIR would be registered after an investigation. The police department has changed the duty of the cop.
The woman said when she came out of the club and reached the parking around 11.30 pm, the cop along with one more person in a car with music playing loudly started taking their rounds. When her male friend objected, they abused and threatened them by pointing a pistol, she alleged.
She called police helpline 112 number. A PCR (police control room) vehicle reached the spot and caught the cop and his friend. Later, DSP Sita Devi and inspector Poonam Dilawari and other cops from Sector 26 police also reached the spot.
The cop denied he was carrying a pistol. Interestingly, cops searched his car and failed to recover the pistol, but the woman claimed she found it from the vehicle in a few minutes.
Ketan Bandal, SP (city), said, “The woman has filed a formal complaint against the cop. We are verifying her allegations. However, the duty of the PSO has been changed. He is now deputed as sentry at the Sector 19 police station.” He was earlier the PSO of the Sector 19 station house officer.
