Peaceful voting was witnessed in bypolls for three wards respectively of three different panchayats in Bardez on Saturday wherein highest voting was witnessed in Oxel at 94.64 per cent followed by Bastora 86.47 per cent and 81.21 per cent in Verla Canca.
On Saturday, polling was held to elect new panchayat members of the three wards of the three different panchayats as the posts have fallen vacant due to various reasons.
Under Oxel panchayat, the election was held for ward number VII wherein out of 317 voters 300 cast their vote to decide fate of two candidates Pravin Kochrekar and Rama Parab. The bypoll was decided for the ward due to the demise of former deputy sarpanch Surath Vernekar.
Similarly, in Bastora, the panchayat bypoll was held for ward number IV where a triangular fight was witnessed between Megha Govekar, Sonia Salgaonkar and Reema Morajkar.
While, for ward VI of Verla Canca panchayat, a turnout of 81.21 per cent was recorded as out of 644 voters, 523 cast their ballot sealing the fate of three candidates- Nicole Marques, Zacharias Mendis and Mohan Dabhale.
