Indian Women cricket team puts another disappointing show, South Africa thrash Mandhana’s team by 8 wickets

SA-W beat IND-W – South Africa Women beat Indian Women by 8 Wickets: South Africa took a 1-0 lead in the T20I series after the visitors thrashed India by 8 wickets in the 1st T20I at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. Opener Anne Bosch led from the front with a fantastic 48-ball 66 while skipper Sune Luus scored 43.

Earlier, India sent to bat, posted a modest 130-run total with Harleen Deol scoring her maiden international half-century.

SA-W beat IND-W: South Africa skipper Sune Luus won the toss and sent Smriti Mandhana’s India women to bat first in the 1st T20I. Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma to open the innings for India and will aim to put up a big total in the 1st T20I.

However, after a good first over, Smriti Mandhana was dismissed by Shabnim Ismail in the second, giving the hosts an early jolt. Following that, Shafali Verma and Harleen Deol added a few quick runs. But Verma was stumped.

During the chase, India got an early breakthrough after in-form Lizelle Lee was dismissed in the third over by Arundhati Reddy. But Anne Bosch and skipper Sune Luus put up a 90-run stand to take the game away from India. Luus fell seven runs short of her fifty as she was caught and bowled by Harleen Deol on 43. But Anne Bosch’s 48-ball 66 gave South Africa an eight-wicket victory in the 1st T20I in Lucknow.

The visitors dominated in the five-match ODI series and would be entering the competition riding on the back of their emphatic 4-1 victory. Lizelle Lee, their lead batsman and Shabnim Ismail, SA’s lead bowler, will be the two players to watch out for.

As for the Indian women, they will be taking to the pitch without their skipper Kaur, who have been ruled out of the series opener due to an injury. She suffered a hip-flexor injury while batting in the fifth ODI on Wednesday.
