MUMBAI: The state government must not impose
a blanket lockdown rather only where the cases are rising should a lockdown be imposed, said opposition leader in the legislative
Maharashtra assembly
Devendra Fadnavis.
Maharashtra is witnessing a second
Covid-19 wave with a surge in positive cases. Nagpur and several parts of
Vidarbha and Marathwada have seen an exponential rise in cases.
Fadnavis addressing the media on Saturday after attending the meeting with the divisional commissioner in Nagpur said complete lockdown is not a solution. "People are suffering on account of a lockdown. There should be strict implementation of restrictions and standard operating procedures must be laid down such that it does not affect people's employment. Wherever there are increasing Covid-19 cases in those areas lockdown should be implemented," he said.
Fadnavis said the focus must be on vaccinating more people. For this opening more vaccination centres is required and help should be taken from NGOs to open more centres, he said adding there was a need to increase more beds for
Covid patients as also opening more Covid centres as was done previously.
