Ind vs Eng, 5th T20I: Ben Stokes Will Play at Number-Three in Dinesh Karthik’s Playing XI

India levelled the ongoing five-match T20I series against England 2-2 after clinching an 8-wicket victory in the fourth fixture. The high-octane action in Ahmedabad is nearing its close. The decider will have the world’s top two in the shortest format of the game squaring off against each other on March 20, Saturday.

Ahead of the final Twenty20 International, India’s veteran wicketkeeper-batsman, Dinesh Karthik came up with a few suggestions for England’s playing XI. Karthik, who is a part of the commentary panel in the ongoing series on Sky Sports, revealed the changes the visitors should make in their side, before the series decider.

According to him, batsman Dawid Malan could be demoted and the Lions could consider promoting their star-all rounder, Ben Stokes high up the batting order at No. 3. He said that the top ranked T20 batsman could bat at No. 6 instead. Although he feels Malan is a good player, he would prefer wicketkeeper-batsman Sam Billings at that position.

Karthik anticipated that his Kolkata Knight Riders captain in the Indian Premier League, Eoin Morgan would not make any changes in the XI who will go to play in the final fixture. He said that ifhe knows Morgan, he will want to ensure toshowconfidence in his players.

Talking about England’s middle order, Karthik said that Jason Roy, Jos Buttler, Stokes, with Jonny Bairstow at No. 4 and Morgan No 5 looks solid to him.

Former England captain Nasser Hussain also joined Karthik and weighed in on the visiting side’s middle-order issue. He pointed out England middle-order woes, saying the trio of three left-handed batsmen come in one after the other is something that needs to be reshuffled. He suggested to either drop one of the three from the playing XI or break the sequence.
