Who is Ritika Phogat? How is She Related to the Famous Phogat Sisters?

Phogat sisters of Haryana have been known for their love for wrestling. Geeta and Babita Phogat earned praises for their father and the nation when they became champions in the game. Ritika Phogat, the 17-year-old wrestler, allegedly lost her life to suicide after facing defeat in a match on Sunday, March 14.

Ritika, cousin sister to Geeta Phogat and Babita Kumari, was known for wrestling at a state-level sub-junior, junior women, and men wrestling tournament. It was a disappointing day for the teenager when she lost a match by just one point. Trained under Dronacharya Awardee coach Mahavir Singh Phogat, Ritika allegedly took her own life, leaving the entire nation in shock.

It is being said that her coach and the father of Phogat sisters, Mahavir Singh was also present at the tournamentwhich was taking place at the Bharatpur’s Lohagarh Stadium. According to the reports so far, Ritika hanged herself at around 11 o’clock in her house in Haryana’s Balali on March 15, a day after losing the match. Her body was sent for post-mortem at the Civil Hospital, Dadri.

A maternal cousin to Geeta and Babita, Ritika had a lot of potential to earn her name in the game of wrestling. Ritika’s father is brother to Daya Kaur, mother of the famous Phogat sisters. Just like Geeta, Babita, Ritu, and Sangita Phogat, Ritika also decided to make her place in the world of wrestling. However, her sudden demise has left everyone in shock.

Ritu shared a heartleft note for her ‘choti behna’, wishing for soul to rest in peace. Geeta mentioned that it is testing times for their family, adding that one should not lose hopes, as success and defeatare part and parcel of life.
