Coronavirus Live Updates: Maharashtra records highest cases ever, while Paris may go under lockdown over fears of third wave.

Coronavirus News Live Updates: In light of rising cases in Maharashtra, the authorities have said negative Covid-19 tests or antigen tests would become mandatory for people to visit shopping malls. Maharashtra recorded a whopping 25,833 cases in one day, the highest ever, in the last 24 hours.

Covid-19 cases are on the rise across the world, including in India, with authorities scrambling to take measure to control another wave of Covid cases. India recorded its highest Covid-19 tally in 2021 with 39,726 new cases in the last 24 hours. The total number of people infected in the country went up to 11,514 331, the dashboard showed. Over half of the cases came from Maharashtra.

Several curbs have been introduced across the state to control the spread of the virus in the state. The health ministry has said that if Maharashtra records cases in the current rate, it will have over 3 lakh cases by the first week of April.

Mumbai Makes Antigen Tests Mandatory for Malls | As Mumbai continue to witness surge in Covid cases, BMC has now made it mandatory for those visiting malls and shopping centres to undergo antigen-tests or carry a negative report. Thane District's Covid-19 Count Rises by 1636, Death Toll by 7 | The coronavirus tally in Thane district of Maharashtra rose to 2,82,368 with the addition of 1,636 new cases, an official said. Maha May Reach 3 Lakh Active Covid-19 Cases by April, Says Health Secretary | With the present positivity rate, Maharashtra's active Covid-19 caseload may reach the three lakh-mark by the first week of April, Maharashtra health secretary Pradeep Vyas said on Thursday. Maharashtra on Thursday recorded 25,833 new coronavirus cases, the highest one-day spike since last March when the first coronavirus infection was detected. It took the caseload to 23,96,340, said a health official. With 58 fatalities, the death toll jumped to 53,138.

2,387 New COVID Cases, 32 Deaths in Punjab | Punjab witnessed 2,387 new coronavirus cases on Thursday, while 32 more people succumbed to the contagion, the Health Department said. The infection tally climbed to 2.05 lakh and toll also rose to 6,204, as per bulletin. The active cases also increased to 14,366 from 13,320 a day ago. Maha Ranks Second in COVID-19 Vaccination in Country: Tope | Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope on Thursday said the state is at the second position in COVID-19 vaccination, next only to Rajasthan. "The state has ranked second at the national level in COVID-19 vaccination. Rajasthan is ahead of us," he said in a tweet. "The state is also low on vaccine going waste. It is six per cent in Maharashtra as against some states in the country where the figure is as high as 20 per cent. Punjab too has announced night curfew amid rising cases in Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Patiala, Mohali, Amritsar, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Kapurthala and Rupnagar will not be able to venture out on roads between 9 pm and 5 am.

Not just in India, Covid-19 cases are rising in several other countries. In France, capital Paris is
going under month-long lockdown amid fears of a third wave.

Meanwhile after several countries including Germany, Italy, France stopped the use of the AstraZeneca vaccines, leading EU countries said on Thursday they would resume vaccinations after the European medical regulator said the jab is “safe and effective”.
