Kothagudem: The medicinal plant exhibition organized by environmentalist Rayi Venkataiah in Ramavaram in Kothagudem elicited good response from various departments.
The exhibition was planned for three days for the first time from 9 March and was extended until 19 March in the light of the requests made by the management of schools and colleges and nature lovers.
He displayed a wonderful collection of about 500 different species of rare and commonly found plants with medicinal properties at the exhibition in his residence in SCB Nagar in Ramavaram.
Venkataiah spoke at Telangana on Friday, saying that the exhibition of medicinal plants was a great success and that the basic concept behind the initiative was to spread the concept of ‘green pharmacy’.
About 5,000 to 7,000 people visited the exhibit, and he said he was happy to make the public aware of medicinal plants available in nature.
Plant lovers, students, Ayurvedic doctors and government officials from across Khammam, Hyderabad, Nizamabad, Bhupalpally, Visakhapatnam, Kurnool and other districts visited the exhibition, which was inaugurated by Green Crusader Vanajeevi Ramaiah.
Venkataiah further reported that the management of several schools and colleges in the former Khammam had asked him to organize similar exhibitions at their institutions for the benefit of their students.
Dr KY Ramachandra Rao, a renowned naturopath and chair of Siddartha Yoga Vidyalayam, also wanted the exhibition to be held at the naturopathic asrams he runs in Nelakondapalli in Khammam and Hyderabad.
In addition, he also offered to allocate one acre of land at his Nelakondapalli ashram to cultivate medicinal plants. Several individuals have also made similar requests to develop ‘green pharmacy’ with them.
The conservation, protection and multiplication of medicinal plants was very important for the benefit of future generations, and also because it could provide cost-effective treatment for various ailments, Venkataiah said.
