35 doctors vie for Maharashtra health university's VC post

MUMBAI: Dr Jagannath Dixit, the brand ambassador of Maharashtra’s anti-obesity campaign, is one of the aspirants for the vice-chancellor’s post of Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS). Thirty-five senior doctors from across spectrum, including the deans of Sion and Nair Hospitals from Mumbai, have applied for the state’s health university’s top post.
The nodal officer for the selection process has received 35 applications – 33 from Maharashtra and one each from Gujarat and Rajasthan. The vice-chancellor’s post was last held by Dr Deelip Mhaisekar, whose tenure got over last month. He returned to Government Medical College, Nanded. The last day to apply was March 8. The shortlisted candidates will be called for an interview soon. Officials claimed that six names are already in speculation for the shortlist.
Among the aspirants are Dr Ramesh Bharmal, dean, Topiwala National Medical College (Nair), and Dr Mohan Joshi, dean, LTM College (Sion Hospital), Dr Ajay Chandanwale, joint director, DMER, Dr Harish Pathak from KEM, and the pro-vice-chancellor of MUHS, Dr Mohan Khamgaonkar and the registrar, Kalidas Chavan.
