Indian unbeaten professional boxing ace Vijender Singh will look to extend his unbeaten run in the professional circuit when he faces Russian opponent Artysh Lopsan, in what is being billed as the ‘Battle on Ship’ on the rooftop of the Majestic Pride Casino ship in Goa today on March 19 at 8:00 pm.
The 2008 Beijing Olympic bronze medallist has not lost a single bout since turning professional. Singh boasts of a 12-0 record, which includes eight knockouts. However, he was last seen in action against Ghana’s Charles Adamu in Dubai in November 2019. On the other hand, six-foot-four-inch Lopsan in his last six bouts as a professional boxer has won four, including two knockouts, he also suffered one defeat and a draw.
The headline fight will be shown live on OTT partners BookMyShow.Com and FanCode app and website. While Sony Network will also telecast the show in the following week. The match also marks the first time in India that the fight will be shown on OTT platforms on a pay-per-view (PPV) format. Fans can enjoy the live streaming of the Las Vegas-style boxing on the rooftop of the Majestic Pride Casino Ship at just Rs 99.
Meanwhile, thirty-five-year-old Singh will rely on his experience against the taller and younger Lopsan, who also has a decent record in the professional ring. Ahead of their big showdown, both boxers completed official weigh in the coastal state on Thursday. While, the aggression that was missing in the first press conference was evident in this official weigh-in as sparks flew between the two superstars. At the weigh-in event Singh set his weight at 75.1 kgs while Lopsan set his at the official 76.2 kgs.
Speaking after the official weigh-in, Singh said, “I’m excited to return to the ring and the weigh-in gives me confidence that I’m on the right path. I never think about my opponent and don’t really care who I’m fighting. I’ll surely go for the knockout and if not that, I’ll make sure my every punch counts,” he added.
On the contrary, Lopsan chose to keep his cards close to his chest, “I rather prefer my fists do the talking. We shall see in the ring what Vijender is capable of. I hope it is easy to work for me and I will be the first to end his unbeaten streak.”
Other than Vijender Singh vs Artysh Lopsan match, the ‘Battle on Ship’ event will also showcase seven undercard fights to provide additional entertainment for boxing lovers.
