Jared Leto calls Snyder’s ‘Justice League’ Joker ‘evolution’ of ‘Suicide Squad’ character

Published

on

Washington [US], March 19 (ANI): After making his return as the Joker in Zack Snyder’s ‘Justice League’, Hollywood star Jared Leto recently spoke to Stephen Colbert about taking on the “incredible” role once again.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, while appearing on ‘The Late Show’, Leto expressed how grateful he was to be a part of Snyder’s ‘Justice League’ and referred to the “Snyder Cut” as “one for the ages.” The movie will mark Leto’s first comeback as the fan favourite Joker after portraying the classic DC villain in 2016’s ‘Suicide Squad’.
Colbert was quick to mention how it is discussed that Leto’s ‘Justice League’ appearance could mark a “redemption” to “expand the character”. But Leto reiterated that he simply felt honored to be asked by Snyder to step into the iconic villain’s shoes again.
Leto said, “I was just happy to be a part of his dream and to get asked to play the Joker for a second time was just a treat. It is one of those roles that is just incredible.”
During his appearance on Colbert’s show, Leto could be seen wearing a “We Live in a Society” shirt. He said profits from sales of the shirt will go to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, as an homage to a popular Joker-related meme and a line he ad-libbed in a now-infamous ‘Justice League’ scene that appeared in a new trailer for Snyder’s Justice League. The clip of Leto reciting the line went viral on social media and left many fans thrilled.
In order to further compare Leto’s original Joker portrayal to the new film, Colbert held photographs of the actor posing in the character’s then-green hair with skin covered in tattoos in Suicide Squad to the darker and more frightening Joker in ‘Justice League’. Reacting to both photographs, Leto explained that it shows “there is some years apart” between the two.
Leto said, “I think it is an evolution. It is common when working with a different director that they bring out different things in you.”
Earlier in the day, Leto took to Twitter and honoured Snyder ahead of the film’s release. “Zack, you are a warrior and a madman. You know this world like nobody else and it was incredible to be a part of retelling this story in the way that you always dreamed of,” he wrote alongside a photo of himself on set with the director.
As per The Hollywood Reporter, Ben Affleck, who reprises his role as Batman in ‘Justice League’, and Leto ended up shooting their scenes separately due to scheduling issues, with the scene completed over three days late last year. (ANI)

Living stress-free life may have benefits, but also downsides

Published

on

By

Washington [US], March 19 (ANI): In our lives, stress is a universal human experience that almost everyone deals with from time to time. The findings of a recent study suggests that not only do some people report feeling no stress at all but also that there can be downsides to not experiencing stress.
The researchers found that people who reported experiencing no stressors were more likely to experience better daily well-being and fewer chronic health conditions. However, they were also more likely to have a lower cognitive function, as well.
David M Almeida, professor of human development and family studies at Penn State, said the study suggests that small, daily stressors could potentially benefit the brain, despite being an inconvenience.
“It is possible that experiencing stressors creates opportunities for you to solve a problem, for example, maybe fixing your computer that has suddenly broken down before an important Zoom meeting,” Almeida said. “So experiencing these stressors may not be pleasant but they may force you to solve a problem, and this might actually be good for cognitive functioning, especially as we grow older.”
According to the researchers, a large number of previous studies have linked stress with a greater risk for many negative outcomes, like chronic illness or worse emotional wellbeing. But Almeida said that while it may make sense to believe that the less stress someone experiences the more healthy they will be, he said little research has explored that assumption.
“The assumption has always been that stress is bad,” Almeida said. “I took a step back and thought, what about the people who report never having stress? My previous work has focused on people who have higher versus lower levels of stress, but I’d never questioned what it looks like if people experience no stress. Are they the healthiest of all?”
The researchers used data from 2,711 participants for the study. Prior to the start of the study, the participants completed a short cognition test. Then, the participants were interviewed each night for eight consecutive nights and answered questions about their mood, chronic conditions they may have, their physical symptoms — such as headaches, coughs, or sore throats — and what they did during that day.
The participants also reported the number of stressors — like disagreements with friends and family or a problem at work — and the number of positive experiences, such as sharing a laugh with someone at home or work, they had experienced in the previous 24 hours.
After analyzing the data, the researchers found that there did appear to be benefits for those who reported no stressors throughout the study, about 10 percent of the participants. These participants were less likely to have chronic health conditions and experience better moods throughout the day.
However, those who reported no stressors also performed lower on the cognition test, with the difference equaling more than eight years of aging. Additionally, they were also less likely to report giving or receiving emotional support, as well as less likely to experience positive things happening throughout the day.
“I think there is an assumption that negative events and positive events are these polar opposites, but in reality they’re correlated,” Almeida said. “But really, I think experiencing small daily stressors like having an argument with somebody or having your computer break down or maybe being stuck in traffic, I think they might be a marker for someone who has a busy and maybe full life. Having some stress is just an indicator that you are engaged in life.”
Almeida said the findings — recently published in the journal Emotion — suggest that it may not be as important to avoid stress as it is to change how you respond to stress.
“Stressors are events that create challenges in our lives,” Almeida said. “And I think experiencing stressors is part of life. There could be potential benefits to that. I think what is important is how people respond to stressors. Respond to a stressor by being upset and worried is more unhealthy than the number of stressors you encounter.” (ANI)

Justin Bieber releases his sixth studio album ‘Justice’

By

Washington [US], March 19 (ANI): Canadian singer and songwriter, Justin Bieber on Friday released his sixth studio album, titled ‘Justice’, and received rave reviews from fans.
According to Fox News, the pop icon created the album during the pandemic and hopes that his new music can “provide comfort to the listener.”
During a recent Zoom press conference, Justin said, “I know a lot of people have been isolated, but music is really an outlet to bring people together.”
He added, “I named it ‘Justice’ because there’s so much injustice in this world and there has been since the beginning of time… My name Justin actually means justice, so there’s that. I’m really honored to play a small part and be able to make music that inspires and can uplift people in this time.”
One of the songs named ‘Die For You’, opens with a part of a speech that Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. gave in 1957. Bieber wanted his album to directly address the Black Lives Matter movement. Speaking about it Justin said, “What I wanted to do with this was amplify Dr Martin Luther King Jr’s voice to this generation. Being Canadian, it wasn’t so much a part of my culture… this speech was actually during the time when he had a feeling that he was going to die for the cause, and what he was standing up against was ultimately racism and division.”
He added, “I think his message was that a lot of people can be afraid to stand up for what is right, but if you’re not standing up for justice — for what is right — what are you doing with your life? I’m sorry to get so deep, but these are the times we’re living in. That’s why I wanted to make this album because I think it’s very timely and very necessary.”
Fans of the singer reacted to the album on Twitter and praised it as Bieber’s best yet. One fan wrote, “Very much in love with justin Bieber’s new album…no complaints.”
Another added, “I got 99 problems and justin bieber’s new album #justice just solved all of them.”
Another song, ‘Unstable’, also addresses Bieber’s mental health struggles throughout his life. “I was in a really, really bad place maybe a year ago,” he explained.
As per Fox News, the new album from the 27-year-old musician features a number of collabs including ones with producer and DJ Skrillex, Soul singers Daniel Caesar and Giveon, rappers Lil Uzi Vert and Chance The Rapper, and singer Khalid. (ANI)

Priyanka Chopra gets up-close, personal in upcoming interview with Oprah Winfrey

Published

By

Washington [US], March 19 (ANI): A new promo of international star Priyanka Chopra Jonas’ upcoming interview with talk show host Oprah Winfrey, which is all set to air tomorrow, dropped on Friday.
Following the preview of the exciting guest list in Winfrey’s all-new ‘Super Soul’ series, discovery+, which is an entertainment streaming app, dropped the exclusive promo of intimate conversation between Winfrey and Priyanka. In the highly anticipated sit-down, she will be seen talking about her personal life and growing up as a child in India.
Answering Oprah about finding her voice during the COVID-19 pandemic by deciding to write a memoir at a very young age, and whether it was all that COVID time that led her to do so, Priyanka said, “I have to say a little bit of it had to do with that, but I had committed to writing the book in 2018, and in between all those flights and the little time I would get in all the hotel rooms that I would live I could just never write. But I had this time because of COVID and that helped me really delve deep.”
“And honestly, I also feel like I, as a woman in a little bit more of a secure place, where I felt like I could leave behind the insecurities of my twenties and not worry about the things that used to scare me before, as much. I have a little but more confidence in myself, in what I bring to the table professionally, personally. So, I think that really helped me address my life and I just always wanted to write a book. And I thought the easiest way to do it would be to write about my life,” explained Priyanka, who at the end chuckled by adding, “it was not”.
They then spoke about Priyanka’s fairytale love story with her husband Nick Jonas. Oprah mentioned that in her book it says that Priyanka thinks her mom “dreamed him up”.
To this Priyanka echoed Oprah’s words, that she was definitely “swept-ed” off her feet and added on by saying that, “I may have judged the book by the cover. I did not honestly take it very seriously when he was texting me. I was 35. I was, like, I want to get married. I want to have kids. He is, you know, in his 20s. I do not know that is something he would want to do. Like I did that to myself for a while. Till I actually went out with him. And nothing surprised me more than him.”
Praising her hubby, she continued, “He is such a self-assured man. So sensible. So excited about my achievements. My dreams. You know, such a true partnership that he offers me in — in everything that we do together. That I truly believe that my mom manifested him.”
The conversation then shifted towards Priyanka’s homeland, India. Oprah discussed with the actor that reading her book made her reflect on her own trips to India and said that “One of the things that was so powerful is the spiritual energy there. The sense of connectedness between people and prayer”
Adding that “it is all so present”, she asked Priyanka whether she had a spiritual foundation growing up. To this Priyanka replied, “I think in India it’s hard not to, you’re right – with the swirling number of religions that we have that live within the country as well. I grew up in a convent school – when I went to school I was aware of Christianity, my dad used to sing in a mosque, (so) I was aware of Islam, I grew up in a Hindu family I was aware of that. So, spirituality is such a large part of India that you can’t ignore it.”
On her family life, she said, “Also my family really believed in having a higher power and having a sense of faith. This is again something my dad used to tell me, he was like basically religion is all a way to get to a supreme power and every religion has a different face to the same direction where we’re going – whatever your face is, whatever your version of that is, its just a means to an end. And so, I am a Hindu and I pray, I have a temple in my home, I do it as often as I can. But at the same time to me I am truly more spiritual I feel – I am a believer of the fact that a higher power does exist and I like to have faith in that.”
Speaking about missing her home, India, Priyanka said, “I just miss India. I have not been back since Holi last year and, you know, India’s my home and I just want to come back visit and smell it and live it and meet my friends and I also want to, you know, do a Hindi movie.”
“I have not done that for a while. So, I just miss home a lot. I just want to be able to get on a flight and land in Mumbai,” she concluded.
In what seemed to be like an idyllic interview setting in Maui, this candid conversation was actually a transatlantic interview with Priyanka in London and Oprah in Hawaii. This intimate dialogue was made possible through cutting-edge technology, which will give audiences a deeper look into the life of India’s beloved international superstar.
‘Super Soul’ is based on OWN’s three-time Emmy Award-winning television series ‘Super Soul Sunday’. The critically acclaimed series delivering, timely, thought-provoking, eye-opening, and inspiring programming designed to help viewers awaken to their best selves and discover a deeper connection to the world around them.
The series features conversations between Winfrey and top thinkers, authors, visionaries and spiritual leaders exploring themes and issues including happiness, personal fulfillment, spirituality, conscious living and what it means to be alive in today’s world. (ANI)
