Italy launches EUR 60 mln plan to connect underserved islands

Friday 19 March 2021 | 15:07 CET | News
Italy's state-owned infrastructure agency Infratel has launched a public consultation on its plan to bring fibre to the country's smaller island archipelagos. The aim of the EUR 60 million plan is to roll out submarine cables to connect currently underserved islands, boosting mobile networks and paving the way for 5G. Some of the islands included in the tender are the Aeolian Islands, Capraia in the Tuscan archipelago, the Pontine Islands, Ustica, Stromboli, Panarea, Filicudi, the Egadi Islands and the Tremiti Islands, among others.
