Boosting Congress campaign, Rahul Gandhi address rally in Assam: Assembly Election 2021

  • | Friday | 19th March, 2021

Questioning the condition of tea workers in Assam, the Congress leader claimed that his party had come up with a policy of investment that has been canceled by the current BJP government in the state.

A northeastern state, known for its wildlife and tea plantation is undergoing political pressure, and to challenge a BJP run state and boost Congress’s campaign momentum in Assam, Rahul Gandhi addresses three rallies in the poll-bound state starting Friday and release the party manifesto on Saturday.

Rahul Gandhi interacted with college students at Lahowal in Dibrugarh district on Friday morning and was later slated to meet tea garden workers at Dinjoy tea estate in Chabua. “Looking forward to meeting you all in Assam! Together let’s defeat the forces that seek to divide us and join hands to build a strong, united, peaceful, and prosperous Assam," the leader posted on messaging app Telegram.

The two-day-long tour is his second trip to the state where his party seeks to oust the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government and seize back power. During his previous visit to the state, Gandhi had addressed a rally in Sivasagar.

If Congress comes to power in Assam, then it will do away with the implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act, Rahul Gandhi said on Friday. Addressing the tea workers, Gandhi said “BJP promised Rs 365 but gives Rs 167 to Assam tea workers. I am not Narendra Modi, I do not lie. Today we give you five guarantees, Rs 365 for tea workers, we’ll stand against CAA, 5 lakh jobs, 200 units, free electricity, and Rs 2000 for housewives.”
