Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram back after 45-minute long outage

Facebook as well as the platforms owned by the social networking giant including the instant messaging app WhatsApp and photo-sharing platform Instagram are back after 45 minute long outage. The services went down for several users across the world.
WhatsApp has acknowledged the downtime in a tweet via its official account. "Thanks for your patience, that was a long 45 minutes but we are back! " says the tweet.
According to Downdetector website, the issue started some time around 10.40 pm IST. Downdetector tracks outages by collating status reports from a series of sources, including user-submitted errors on its platform.
Several users on micro-blogging platform Twitter too reported issues with these apps. While Instagram showed error, users were not able to refresh their WhatsApp feed.
At around 10.54 pm, Downdetector showed 21,000-plus users facing issues with WhatsApp. The outage seems to have affected a large number of Instagram users as well. The website showed more than 1.2 million incidents of users reporting issues with Instagram.
The reason for the outage is not clear. Facebook's gaming unit was the first to confirm the outage in a tweet from its official handle.
