Name Announced Without Consent, Says BJP’s Bengal Candidate

Moments after the BJP launched its second listing of candidates for the Bengal elections on Thursday, the get together’s nominee from Kolkata’s Chowringhee meeting constituency claimed that her title was introduced with out her consent.

Sikha Mitra, the spouse of late Congress chief Somen Mitra, has mentioned she won’t contest the elections beginning March 27.

“No, I am not contesting from anywhere. My name has been announced without my consent. Also, I am not joining the BJP,” she was quoted as saying by information company PTI.

Following her assembly with BJP chief Suvendu Adhikari, there have been rumours of her becoming a member of the get together.

This might show to be a significant embarrassment to the BJP, which is already battling resentment in its ranks over ballot tickets to ex-Trinamool leaders.

The Trinamool Congress, in the meantime, took stinging jibes on the BJP over the fiasco.

“…BJP finally announce West Bengal candidates after two weeks and those on list say they’re not in the BJP and they are not running on a BJP ticket. Time for some homework, Mr Shah,” Trinamool MP Mahua Mitra tweeted.

Senior Trinamool chief Derek O’Brien additionally joined his get together colleague in ridiculing the BJP.

The BJP on Thursday introduced its second listing of candidates, naming 157 candidates for the phases 5, six, seven and eight. With the listing together with 9 outgoing Trinamool MLAs, protests broke out.

Last week, a 31-year-old Tribal man, enlisted by the BJP to contest subsequent month’s Kerala elections from the Mananthawady seat within the Wayanad district, had declined to contest the polls and introduced he was quitting politics.

The multi-phased elections to Bengal, Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry assemblies will finish on April 29. Counting will likely be held on May 2.
